White Crocus with Textures

white crocus with textures for web

This week for Kim Klassen’s Texture Tuesday Challenge she asked us to think White.  I came across a photo I had taken last spring of white crocus in the garden.  They just stood out with the bright yellow stamens.   I did so much playing around with this that I could not remember what I did but there are two textures.  One is French Kiss “Rosy French Script” and one is Kim Klassen’s “Poetic”.   I converted the original photo in a black and white conversion and then brought back the white flowers using a soft brush in Photoshop. I added a sold colour in a soft blue and again used the soft brush to take it off the flowers.

I am joining Lisa Gordon for The Creative Exchange and also Texture Tuesday at Kim Klassen Café.    Valerie

It Started with a Shadow

This morning started out bright and sunny but very cold.  Check the thermometer.  Minus 15C is too cold to go out with the camera.    But, the sunshine coming in the windows provided me with a lovely little shadow in the hall.  Out came the nifty 50 lens and in no time I had some photos to share for Mosaic Monday with Mary.   Hope you are having a little sunshine where you are.   Valerie

Cabin Fever for Project 52

Miniatures bird feeder for web

Darcy at My3Boybarians has a  Project 52 challenge in this week called Cabin Fever.   I spotted a box of miniatures in the storage room that I thought I had given away.   Once upon a time I had a shadowbox on the wall and these little miniatures were in it.  I thought it might fit the theme this week.    I took them with my macro lens and then in photoshop I added a wallpaper background as per a tutorial from Jill Wellington from This is Life-Throughmylens in which she took a photo taken with a white background and added a  pretty wallpaper background.

Have a great day.  Valerie

An Old Wooden Porch

Lucy Maud Montgomery House with kk filicity

This photo is the front porch of a home owned by Lucy Maud Montgomery, author of Anne of Green Gables and her husband when they lived in Leaskdale, Ontario.  She wrote many of her books at this home.   I used a black and white conversion layer to start and then brought back the green from the front porch pillars.   I added Kim Klassen’s texture called “filicity”.   I used the blending modes of multiply and softlight.   I think it looks vintage.

I am joining Kim Klassen Café for Texture Tuesday and Lisa Gordon for The Creative Exchange.

My Valentine’s Bouquet for Mosaic Monday

Valentine Mosaic PP template

My Valentine bouquet this year was pastel colours.   They just brightened up the mood around here.   Aren’t they pretty?   Have to say I thought so.

I have been running back and forth from the hospital this week.   My husband suffered a set back when a procedure did not go exactly right.   I thought he was bent for surgery but has avoided it thank heavens.   A couple more days and he can come home.   I have my fingers and toes crossed.   Valerie

Valentine’s Day 2012

hearts in basket

HappyValentine’s Day to all my blogging friends.    I filled a miniature basket with cinnamon hearts and added a saying from a scrapbook book.  I added a two textures from Kim Klassen.  The first was dusty rose. The second was serendipity.   I added the text, a drop shadow and a bottom edge to put my logo.

All on a Winters Day

mosaic with scrapbook paper

All the leaves are brown

And the sky is grey
And the sky is grey
I've been for a walk

On a winters day

Id be safe and warm
Id be safe and warm
If I was in l.a.

California dreamin

On such a winters day

Can you hear the music.    It wasn’t California but it was a beautiful sunny and snowy morning.   I was out shoveling the drive way and just enjoying the sun on my face.  We haven’t had much sun lately.    St Francis had a snowy white cloak on to keep him warm. The birds were atwitter.    The plume of the seed head on the Goat’s Beard look beautiful with a blue sky background.   The goldfinches are enjoying the sun and the Niger seed in the feeders.  Hope you had a wonderful weekend.

We have a full week of appointments for my husband at Southlake Cancer Centre this week.   Since finding out that he has Cancer in the Esophagus we have had many of these appointments.   I am praying that all will be well and he can be cured.   For the moment he is too weak to do much and I am learning skills that I never had to bother with before.

I am joining with Mary for Mosaic Monday.   Valerie

Trying for Lightness

Pink Mums in a vase

My husband bought me a bouquet of flowers and they are just about finished.  I cut the best blooms off and put them in a little creamer.  I added a texture from Shadowhouse called square 41.  I wanted to bring out a little colour as the background was so white. I finished with Pioneer Woman’s vignette action called quick edge burn.

I am joining Lisa Gordon for The Creative Exchange.   Have a great week.  Valerie

Much Too Soon

New buds

I am concerned for the longevity of my plants after this unusual winter we have had.  As I was out walking in the Sandbox this morning I took the time to look at the various shrubs .  The Magnolia seemed to be fine but the Tree Peony right beside it had red growth showing from the buds.   The Serviceberry also showed opening buds and the Rosa Rugosa that grows in the front garden was also sprouting.   A cold snap will kill off these buds but will will they survive the freeze and thaw that has been the norm so far.  Only time will tell.

I am joining Mosaic Monday with Mary.   Thanks for visiting the Sandbox.  Valerie

Hoping You Have a Blessed Easter
