Not Quite Christmas Cactus

Christmas Cactus in Isobell LaFrance template

The Christmas Cactus or botanically speaking Schlumbergera x buckleyi is beginning to bloom in the kitchen.   I have three colours; a pale pink, a white, a red-orange one.   The pale pink was the first to bloom this week.  They are so delicate.  The Christmas cactus is a short-day plant blooming from mid October.  Does not like to be overwatered but better kept on the dry side out of drafts.  If it is moved as the new blooms are forming it will abort all the setting buds.  Just let it be and enjoy it.  Comes in a rainbow of colours.

Thanks to all the nice comments about my cold which turned into bronchitus.  I am now on antibiotics and should  be back to normal again soon. Well I hope so.  I have not got around to visiting as much as I would like to.  ps. I would like to thank Isabelle LaFrance for the template that I used today.

I will be joining Mary for Mosaic Monday.   See you there.   Valerie

Oh dear - bronchitis is no fun, so I'm glad you're on the mend.
My Christmas cactus isn't doing much at all. I didn't realize that I shouldn't move it, so next year I'll be sure to put it where I can see it more easily. Perhaps the problem has been that I have moved it each year as the buds form, so as to have a pretty view of it.

would you believe that my Christmas Cactus ( i have 3 like you) bloom all year long. Not with quite as many blooms on it but still flowers here and there. 2 pinks and 1 white.

I would take pictures but left my camera at a friends house last night.

Beautiful mosaic, Val! I haven't been too successful with Christmas cactus but they are charming at this time of year.

Very sorry to hear about your bronchitis – how rotten. Hope you are resting and feel much better fast.

I hope you are feeling better with the antibiotics! I'm glad I read this post as I was thinking of moving my Christmas cactus back upstairs to enjoy as it's starting to bloom. Now I'll have to enjoy it down here in the office! Thanks for the tips. Pamela

Oh, Oh, I moved my Christmas Cactus just a week or so ago so it could get more light. Hope I didn't discourage it from blooming. It seems to be okay so far.

I hope you soon feel completely back to normal. Bronchitis is no fun at all.

Oh dear bronchitis is bad, had it myself about 2 weeks ago. How wonderful to see your CC doing good. I had one many years ago and keep yearning for one. I did not know about the movement being bad. If I get one now I will feel more confident. Great mosaic.
