Lest We Forget 2012

Remembrance mosaic 2012

In 1944 my Dad was a young flying officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force stationed in Tor Bay, Newfoundland.  Today he is 92years old and his memory is fading away into dementia.

Today, we remember the men and women that have served our country in the two world wars and in many wars and battles since.  Some gave their lives for us to be free and some still battle with the thoughts and memories of what they saw and felt during their time of duty.  We honour their sacrifice.  The poppy we proudly wear signifies their calling and reminds us to never forget.

I am joining Mary for Mosaic Monday.   Have yourself a wonderful week.

It's so important to remember those who served. Thank your Dad for me next time you see him, even if he may not be fully aware. Men and women like him deserve to be honoured.

Hi Val
It's sad to see such honourable men fade away with age and not remember their brave deeds.
Have a good week.

Lovely post Valerie. The photos of your Dad and medals reminded me of my own darling Dad who died this July aged 91. I wish you well with your Dad.. I know only too well what a wonderful yet difficult time these last years can be. Enjoy each and every moment you have together.

Lovely tribute to your dad, Valerie. Even though my parents were too young to fight, they grew up in a port town in England with lots of bombings. As they get older (80 now), they are finally ready to share some of their childhood stories. I'm glad they are finaly sharing with me and my children so that we never forget what they went through.

What a wonderful tribute your photo mosaic is - my father was in the British airforce in WW2 and I found your post very moving. We owe men like our fathers and the many who gave their lives, so very, very much.
