Chippys Are Not Always Cute

Chippy in the tray

Just look at this face.   Looks pretty cute doesn’t he?   Well,  I am having a little trouble with the chippy as he feels entitled to dig and bury in my flower containers.  Case in point!

one down

I was sent some Asiatic Lily bulbs by McFayden Seed.  The variety is called Patricia’s Pride and is a bi-coloured lily.   I planted them in a container as lily beetles are a problem with all lilies in the Sandbox.   I thought I could keep a closer eye on these in a container.  As you can see by the photo Chippy the Chipmunk thought that I created a sandbox for him to dig in.   He up righted one of the lily bulbs.   I put some stone on top of the soil thinking that would deter him from digging.

Chippy was not to be deterred and he kept on digging holes.  I was afraid that I was going to loose the second bulb so I came up with another idea.

Caged lily

This is the poor lily today with a wire cage around it.   No, Chippy has not stopped digging in the pot but he has not been able to get too close to the bulb.  Unfortunately, it does not look that wonderful as a specimen.  I hope to see it bloom and I will share with you the flower when it does.   In the meanwhile I will keep guard.

Going to be hot hot hot here in the Sandbox.  Have a great day.

Gosh Val, I put mine in the front garden and have all but forgotten them until I saw yours. No lily beetles as far as I can tell and the chippies dig in my pots too.
Little stinkers huh?

I agree, they are cute but annoying. They have dug in my pots and ruined some carrots, some windflowers, some nasturtiums seedlings and more. I can't seem to find a place to put the pots that they won't find. Hope your lily blooms.
They are pesky fellows in the garden. May not look great but I hope it keeps them out of your container.

Sometimes we just have to do what needs to be done even if it doesn't look pretty. But the flower will be gorgeous!

Every morning I go outside to see dirt all over the patio beside the flower pots - the chipmunk (we seem to only have the one) loves to dig in them here too. If I'm only seeing one, where's the mommy?

Hi Val!

Hope you are well. Such a great photo of the chipmunk – very cute but I'm very glad we don't have them here. My lilies get to grow without being harassed. Except by the incessant rain we have been having (bar the two days of sun for the solstice which were thoroughly enjoyed!).

Wishing you a wonderful weekend but hopefully not too hot!

Oh naughty little chipmunk - why do you have to be so darn cute? It would be very hard to stay mad at this little sweetie! Good luck with your flower!

Abstract Flowers

I found this photo in my Lightroom files yesterday and I decided to join Bonnie for her monthly Pixel Dust Photo Art PhotoArtFriday. Her theme this month was funny enough abstract art.  So I added one of her textures called Si  Belle to my abstract flowers and that is it.

First Birthday

Yesterday my husband and I attended our granddaughters first birthday party.  The house was alive with little ones having a fun time of running through the house.  Kenzi wanted to join it but they kept knocking her down as they sped past her.  She is a trouper though.  No tears as she got back up and tried to go with the flow again. The hitch came when she was to participate in the smash the cake ritual that all of my daughter-in-laws family do at the first birthday.  Her maternal grandmother had made the smash cake and Kenzi was supposed to get down into it with both hands and get covered in cake.   Kenzi was having no part in it.  She cried as her hand was pushed into the cake.   Oh well maybe next year.  It was lovely to see all the little babies born at the same time as Kenzi and how sweet they all were.  Kenzi’s cake was an Elmo cake.  He is her favourite character.  I am joining Mary for Mosaic Monday.  I can feel spring in the air even though we have quite a bit of snow left bu…
