First Birthday

Kenzi first birthday

Yesterday my husband and I attended our granddaughters first birthday party.  The house was alive with little ones having a fun time of running through the house.  Kenzi wanted to join it but they kept knocking her down as they sped past her.  She is a trouper though.  No tears as she got back up and tried to go with the flow again.

The hitch came when she was to participate in the smash the cake ritual that all of my daughter-in-laws family do at the first birthday.  Her maternal grandmother had made the smash cake and Kenzi was supposed to get down into it with both hands and get covered in cake.   Kenzi was having no part in it.  She cried as her hand was pushed into the cake.   Oh well maybe next year.

It was lovely to see all the little babies born at the same time as Kenzi and how sweet they all were.  Kenzi’s cake was an Elmo cake.  He is her favourite character.

I am joining Mary for Mosaic Monday.  I can feel spring in the air even though we have quite a bit of snow left but the sun when it appears seems stronger and warmer and I can’t quite put a finger on it but it has that essence of spring.

That first birthday is so special isn't it? Kensi is sweet and the pic of her not liking to smash her cake is precious. Maybe it should have been chocolate frosting. :) The sun has been lovely here but a cold breeze today. The snow is shrinking a bit too. Have a wonderful week.

What sweet photos of a sweet little girl! Funny about not wanting to smash her cake--smart girl! IT is definitely spring here today and the grass has suddenly just in the last day turned much greener. Soon we will be mowing again.

She is a sweetie, Valerie. I too can feel spring in the sunshine, or maybe I am just hoping:)

Goodness, Kenzi is a year already? Where has the time gone. Lots of fun watching the little ones, better than our teens with their heads bent down to technology. :-)

How lovely to celebrate with lots of family. Your little granddaughter pulling off her sock is adorable. So funny about not wanting to get right into the cake. But really - we teach them to be neat and tidy, then expect them to be messy on demand - no wonder the little ones get confused.

The "smash cake" must be a relatively new thing. Maybe Kenzi felt it wasn't right to smash a cake? Poor lil' one -- so cute!

What a fun time for all, Valerie, and she is just precious. Not sure I'd want to smash my Elmo cake either. :-)

Happy First Birthday, Kenzi!!! xo.

awww she's beautiful. We don't do the smash the cake thing here in the UK ... we didn't when mine were growing up anyway but I know of another blogger whose little one refused to smash the cake on her first birthday.

Happy First Birthday to her, Valerie! (A year already??). Sounds like it was a successful party. Maybe Kenzi's too much of a lady for the cake smash – a tradition I don't admire too much anyway.

Hoping You Have a Blessed Easter
