Lest We Forget

My Mom and Dad met while they were stationed in the Royal Canadian Air Force in Newfoundland.  My Dad was a flying officer piloting an airplane called a Canso.  Mom was in the tower.   Grandma Scott, Dad and Margaret

Here is my dad with his mother and and his sister back when he was a young puppy.  Looks rather dashing in his uniform doesn’t he?  Although he did not serve overseas he protected this great country of Canada so that we would have a place to grow and thrive in peace.  Remember to bow your heads for two minutes at the stroke of 11am tomorrow and pray for lasting peace for own families.  Valerie

In Flanders Fields by John McCrae

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses row on row

That mark our place: and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow

Loved and were loved, and now we lie

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe;

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

In Flanders fields.

Your father does look dashing in his uniform! I am so thankful for individuals like him who fought for our country, for our freedom and liberty. I too did a post on Remembrance Day on my blog The Gardening Life.

Hello there .. thank you for visiting my blog and leaving comments : )
I see we share a link to the military. My husband is a Gulf War vet (the first Gulf War in '91) .. we also lived in the Netherlands ('95-'99) and saw the impact there, along side Belgium, Germany and so on, it was intensely felt.
I was trying to write a post for Remembrance Day but my experiences are just too emotional still .. I'm happy to read yours though.
Joy : )

What a lovely and touching sentiment. It is good to remember the past.

Your dad didn't see action, but his service kept us free just as surely as any flying ace's or infantryman's efforts.
He is, indeed, a dashing-looking airman!

My dad was in WWI in France, and I honored his service in my blog on Veteran’s Day. I also remembered the Canadians as I learned of their supreme sacrifices when I visited Ypres, Belgium. Veteran;s Day is always a sad one for me. I loved seeing your family photo and hope you will enjoy mine if you have time to stop by and see them. Genie
