An Old Glass Christmas Tree Ornament

Glass Ornament

Some years ago my Mom gave me some ornaments that she said were the first ones that adorned their tree when Mom and Dad were first married.  That makes them just a little older than me and I’m as old as dirt.   They are not in very good shape but I just cannot toss them out yet.   For Kim Klassen’s challenge for Texture Tuesday this week we were to think “Celebrate”.   I have lost two friends in the last two years to Cancer and I have to celebrate that here I am still kicking and still celebrating on their behalf.   The textures I used were Kim’s “silent night”.  I used two layers and then I added a texture from Betty Jo called “Seaglass”.   Looks a bit festive.

I will be joining with Lisa Gordon for The Creative Exchange and Kim Klassen for Texture Tuesday.

This is a beautiful ornament!
I still have many of the glass ornaments that we're on our tree when I was just a little one. Yes, they are now very worn, but to me they are as beautiful as they always were. It is also very hard to find these (new) anymore. It seems like most are plastic.

Thank you so much for the wonderful memory, and for sharing at The Creative Exchange this today.

Have a great night!

lisa.

Oh, I have some of those. I inherited them frommy grandma. They are very thin and fragile. I stoppedputting them on the tree for fear they would get broken.

I love treasures like these.

Oh, they don't make them like that anymore. Although past it's prime, it's still beautiful.

You have celebrated your mom's ornament perfectly with your photograph and texture. I am sorry about the loss of your friends. This time of year memories are always at the forefront of our minds, as we go through decorations. Celebrating their lives is lovely.

Hi Val
You can see this glass ball is vintage right away and the textures you've added really enhance it. I like the snowflakes barely seen in the background.

As old as dirt. (LOL) And as beautiful as ever. :)

That said, your mothers ornament is absolutely stunning. Lovely use of texture and a wonderful celebration story behind it all. I really loved reading it. Celebrate your still kicking around and include those who have passed in your celebration. Yes. I think its a lovely idea. :) xo

This is the sort of ornament that's great to keep, Valerie. Full of memories. I like how you processed the photo.

Magnificent - Betty Jo's texture compliments Kim's "silent night" for a great result. Love the snow flakes too. Very festive. I'm sure your friends will be celebrating with you.

vintage ornaments make the tree - especially since they've been handed down by your parents. Lucky you!
